I really enjoyed reading Girl Unknown from start to finish, and found myself completely wrapped up in it, finishing reading it really quickly. Make that who she is. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. As this book is told from multiple perspectives, one of the most important aspects for me was that the individual voices must sound different, and I think the authors achieved this well.
Girl Unknown in three words: Unsettling, Polished and Penetrating. The character crafting in this novel is wonderful, they all feel believable and individual. Few directors of their status would be humble enough to accept criticism of a film on premiere and recut it for release. A tiny little French poodle had a suite all to himself! When Zoe Barry walks into Professor David Connolly's office and announces that she is his daughter, he is left reeling. Some things I was able to anticipate, but there was one killer reveal that got at least one fist pump out of me! Perhaps this is because, as much as the dead girl, The title could also refer to Jenny. I suspect various readers will find their sympathies changing a few times while reading this book.
A daughter, a sister, a friend. Yet we get a hint of her own frustrations when she uses Julien as a punching ball. Though no one knows quite who Zoë is, she is soon entangled in their lives. While they are scowling at one another, the buzzer goes and, thus distracted, they fail to answer the door. Habran Yves Larec but must soon decide whether to accept a more lucrative position out of town. Is Zoey who she says she is and why has she come into David's life at this particular time, what are her intentions in regards to his family? By the end of the book, I Associate Professor David Connolly lectures at a university in Ireland and intends to apply for the head of the department job coming up soon. Quests for meaning and identity often involve violent change, and only heroic personalities complete that quest.
This is a story of guilt, forgiveness, regret, betrayal and manipulative behavior. But it is the lives of his family - particularly his wife Caroline - which are turned upside down by the arrival of this stranger. The movie is made in the best traditions of Belgian cinematography, directed by Dardenne brothers. The lead up to the ending, while could be shocking to some, kept well within the story line and the build up that the author s created. Zoë Barry is her name. Their latest novel, Girl Unknown is my second novel by this team and it certainly didn't disappoint. A very good book, and a fast read. So definitely this book won't be my last by them! It may not be the happiest story, but it illustrates how unpredictable Cannes is at every turn. I myself went back and gave the film a second look in the hopes that the issues I had with the storytelling could be set aside and that a more profound driving concern would finally reveal itself. At times, he confuses Zoe with Linda. In looking at the back of my book jacket, I see that the author Karen Perry is actually an author team: Karen Gillece and Paul Perry, from Dublin.

Late one evening the buzzer sounds at the front door as Jenny and Julien prepare to leave for the day.
